As you might have seen, almost all watch phone are fitted with a Bluetooth compatible chip, mainly because it’s more convenient during use to have a Bluetooth headset connected to a watch phone to make taking calls a lot easier. In this case it comes to mind one simple question: will a wrist watch phone connected to an iPod Touch turn it into an iPhone. This post is meant to answer this question.
What connects to what device?
First, a cell phone watch connects to a bluetooth device, which in these days is only a bluetooth headset (stereo or normal) so that sound from a call is outputed to it. What you talk is being sent by the headset mic directly to the watch phone and from here to the caller on the other side. Maybe in future a watch phone could connect to an external GSP module but now is not the case plus maybe someone will think of getting a GPS chip inside the watch phone, but this is just speculation now.
So, we’ve established that a cell phone watch connects to an external bluetooth device just for call purposes, so there’s no need to use an iPod because it isn’t a remote speaker, but a more advanced device. But…
What if?
What if the cell phone watch has Remote SIM function? This will allow an external Bluetooth device connected to the watch to use it’s phone capabilities to make calls. In this case all you need is an iPod app that recognizes and uses those capabilities to act just like an iPhone (a complete iphone review can be read here). So there you have your answer. It’s possible, but not as easy as you might think.
