RIM plans a Blackberry watch phone

Yeap, you heard it right, your favorite QWERTY email phone, Blackberry, might soon come with a bluetooth watch phone as an accessory, declared todayAntoine Boucher, vicepresident of RIM, manufacturer of Blackberry phones. They’re planning a headset, codenamed Alpha 1, which will come with an accessory that will show e-mail notifications, BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Messenger, Facebook, and SMS text alerts plus it will push music from your smart phone to the car stereo using FM transmission.

I’m curious how well it will be integrated with other bluetooth enabled phones. It would be a petty to be confined to the Blackberry brand only. I hope RIM learns from Apple’s mistakes and plans a more open approach to its bluetooth watch phone compatibility list. Now we have to sit and wait for an official confirmation, not just the “maybe we will do that”.
